Park City Point 2 Point 2012!

2011 was a great year for the Park City Point 2 Point.  The event sold out back in February in under six minutes and we ended up with a stellar group of racers when we toed the line last September.

Alex Grant smoked the course in record time to take the Open Men division ($1,750 payday!).  On the women’s side, Amanda Carey sealed her overall in the National Ultra Endurance Series (going undefeated in 2011 actually) by taking the win here.

For 2012, we hope to have an equally successful event, I would assume entries will go fast again – how fast, nobody knows.  If you want to increase you changes of getting into the race for 2012, make sure you log-in well before the launch to create a profile in the system.

2011 Park City Point 2 Point Sells Out in 6 Minutes!

The 2011 Park City Point 2 Point race SOLD OUT IN JUST UNDER 6 MINUTES this year.  We thank all of you that registered, and we also thank those of you that tried to register.  Please mark your calendar for February 15th, 2012 7PM Mountain Standard Time, we will do it all over again.  Safe racing to all in 2011!

The race is sold out, if you want, keep you eyes open around our Facebook and Twitter presence, and you can always watch/post on the forums (MTBR.com is a good one).  Wish we could accommodate everyone, we simply can’t.  Good luck in your quest to race the PCP2P.

NOTE:  There are no refunds and no transfers to the following year (rain checks) if you are the holder of a P2P race spot.  However, you can sell your entry and that process happens through our registration partner at athlete360.com > Last year most racers wanting to sell an entry had a pretty easy time finding someone to take it (buy it!).  If you are cool, you’d sell it at face value plus the transfer fees.

2011 Registration Nears!

Hello and Happy New Year to all you Park City Point 2 Point enthusiasts!

It is that time of the year again, racers are starting to think about the events they will be participating in and promoters are feverishly starting to prepare for planning these races.  The Point 2 Point is going to have some significant changes for 2011, and details will start unfolding here on the site in the next week or so.

A couple things that are important to let you all in on now:

  • Entries become available on February 15th, 2011 at 7PM mountain standard time.  There will be a minimum 300 entries available at that time, probably more.  As you all know, the maximum entrants is 350.
  • One of the biggest changes for 2011 > we will only be offering solo race entries for 2011.  I know this is going to be disappointing for a small group of racers, but the hard fact is most of the interest in the PCP2P is for solo racing.  With very limited race positions we feel it necessary to do this.
  • This year we are part of the NUE series!
  • The course is going to a bit different this year, specifically through Deer Valley, as we try to mitigate parking issues at the upper parking lot (Silver Lake).  More details will unfold on this in coming weeks.  Will it be harder is the resounding question…and I don’t have the answer yet.  My guess would certainly be yes, of course it will be harder.  It’s always hard!
  • Final pricing will be posted in the next week.  The P2P registation fee is going to increase a bit due the elimination of the Duo classes and a couple additional fees we will be incurring this year (at Deer Valley and with Basin Recreation).  I promise we will strive to keep the entry costs at or under $150 this year and into the future.  We will also continue to try and provide a great product for your efforts to enter and finish this race!

FREE entry!

Got your attention didn’t I!

So, we are dropping 5 spots into the Park City Point 2 Point. They will become live at 7PM on July 26th > > this is the race registration Page PCP2P Athlete 360 The spots are Solo entries…better set a timer to go off, they are guaranteed to go fast.

That is not all though.  Visit our Facebook page and tell us in a general wall post why you are deserving of a FREE solo entry.  Maybe you were convinced you’d get in to Leadville, but nooooo.  Maybe you just started riding bikes and you want your first race to be a big one.  Video entries are cool and photos included in the post will get big bonus points.  The winner will be announced Monday July 26th sometime during the day.

Waiting List…

A lot of you have asked about a waiting list and I wanted to give some clarification.  We are not going to do a waiting list, based off of what we’ve heard from the majority of feedback we are going to go with a first-come/first-served release of whatever (if any) we find in duplicates and that type of thing after the audit.  If and when we do release positions, we will post on Facebook, Twitter and the news section of the web site, so stay close to those.   Thank you, Thank you for the massive interest – we will keep you posted.

HOLY #%*#@! Did That Really Happen?

It did!

Well first of all we want to thank everyone for the avalanche of entries into the 2010 Park City Point 2 Point – very cool.  I can’t believe we sold 50 entries in the solo category in the first 5 minutes registration was open this morning.  5ish hours into it and we had completely sold out the solo entries and as I write this post – some 13 hours after registration we have 1 Duo opening remaining.

So here is the deal, we are going to spend the next 12 hours or so doing an audit of the entries, we’ve seen a couple double entries and there are a few other problems.  We have no idea how it will shake out, but if there are a couple of additional entries – and I mean a couple, we will post them up for a first-come, first-served offering.  We will announce when we will drop them (give a specific time), and then they will be up for grabs.

We know there are still a ton of you out there that want to race, and trust me, I wish I could say – come one, come all, but we can’t.  This race is great and will continue to be great because of the small field and intimacy of the event.  All I can say is…mark your calendars for this same time next year and better luck then!

Registration Tomorrow… 9:00AM

I wanted to get one more post up before registration opens up again tomorrow, covering off a few things and commenting on some of the feedback we’ve had over the last couple of days (thanks to all that have given feedback – we do appreciate and listen).

So, first things first.  If given the choice again…to open registration to early to last years racers – I think we would handle it the same way.  We did this as a way to show our appreciation for supporting an event in its first year.  As we all know, first year events can really suck…or they can be really great.  I think we had a wonderful first year, and it wouldn’t have been that way without the support of the racers and their friends and families (volunteering).  So again…we thank you all very much.

A few poachers did fall into the mix during the early registration (no offense poachers, I can’t find a better word).  I’m going to give them all lenience, as most told me they didn’t realize it was a “closed” offering, and frankly, most of the folks that registered in the 24 hours we had it open were returning racers.  Chalk it up to laziness, but we are not going to go in and peal out the poachers, refund everyone and have them re-register.  We certainly appreciate everyone’s acceptance and understanding in regard to this little hick-up.

As for tomorrow…we scraped up another 10 entries that will get added into the mix. So we should have nearly 145 solo entries up for grabs and 18 duo slots.  So the skeptic in me says there is now way 145 solo racers will enter tomorrow – but then I never would have imagined over 100 would have entered so quickly on Wednesday.  I’m blown away at the interest in the Park City Point 2 Point, when asked a couple of months ago if I though it would sell out this year my answer was always, ” it could…but I would be blown away if it did.”  So I guess time will only tell over the next few weeks.

As for next year, we appreciate all the input.  We feel, at this point anyway,we will make available all the slots as a first-come, first-served offering and they will more than likely be released in the evening (lets say 7PM as a placeholder).  We will explore the idea a giving the top-3 in each category an invite to race – but nothing concrete on this today.

As for the number of racers we’ve been allocated, 300 is the number we were given by the Park City governing bodies (Basin Rec, Park City Muni, etc).  Last year we had about 160 people on course, this year it is looking like we will be at our max – 300, us getting more people on course will be dependent on a number of things.  We will be looking at managing the quality of the event as our key metric for whether we increase the size of the field (or better stated – if we would approach Park City and ask for more slots).  If the size increase this year doesn’t allow us to provide the same quality event – we may choose to stay at 300.   Park City will be looking at the impact on the trails and most importantly how we all mitigate run-ins with the joe-public trail users.  So keep this in mind as you are racing this year.

Lastly, I’m sure you are all pretty good with 3rd grade level math and can see that we do not have all the 300 slots pushed out for racers.  Yes…we have to hold a handful aside for sponsor entries and VIP’s, (we wouldn’t have a race without them), additionally – we’ve made the decision to hold some entries for pro level racers, we feel this is important to the success of the event in the future and making this a marquee event that has National recognition.

So In closing, thanks again for the tremendous amount of interest in the race – we couldn’t be happier.  The Plan again for tomorrow is pretty simple….
