So, we need to clarify what is going on with registration. We opened registration today for the racers who raced last year, as a thank you for having faith in us during our first year! This has backfired on us a little, as we’ve had a number of people register today that did not race last year. There’s still a lot of spaces left for the event, but as a result of the poaching, we will shut the athlete360 site down at noon tomorrow (Feb. 11th). Registration will re-open at 9:00AM on Monday, February 15th. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the enthusiasm everyone is showing for the event, but we also want to be certain new racers all get the same chance at the spaces available. I shutter to think about creating another LT100 debacle.
Another thought to file away for 2011, and I would love to see some comments here on this – do you think the best way to handle registration is to simply open it up on a given day and let it go first-come-first-served? I personally do not like the lottery system. Thoughts?
Happy Winter Riding.

Eric – I hear you…we live and we learn. We honestly thought it would be a great idea to offer last years racers a special invite – it backfired and I apologize (It was my idea). Next year, at this point, we will more than likely be a first come first served for everyone – but we’ve got a long time to determine how that works. We don’t want it to turn into another LT100.
9:00AM Monday…I will be certain we change the availability time on athlete 360.
Thanks for you comments. J

ps – please, please, please stick with the 9 AM open on Monday so I don’t log in and find that it’s been open since midnight.
thanks

this is a bit of a bummer.
i opted not to register for leadville at all this year (given the ridiculousness it has become). instead i’d penciled in pcp2p as my race for 2010. even had alarms set for sunday at midnight to make sure I got in. sounds like about 60% of the slots are filled already with the covert reg – that blows just a little.
next year, maybe first come first served and you should probably stick to the entry date you’ve been telling all your twitter followers and retweeters for the past couple months. they’re a pretty loyal following too.

Guilty! I just couldn’t help myself with everyone else signing up.
With regard to the future, I think a guaranteed entry for past years finishers is a good idea, but I would limit it to the top 25 (unless I am out of the top 25 this year) in each category or something like that. Provide those people with some sort of code to allow early registration (I don’t know if Athlete360 can do that), and then just open it up for first come first serve after that.

All…we understand most racers registering simply didn’t get “the memo” on who was eligible to sign-up. This is the easiest way, turning off reg, to mitigate frustrating anyone further. We’ll see everyone back here Monday, the 15th of February, to start up registration again. Cheers.

IF WE POACHED WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON….
AS FOR THE LOTTERY I’AM NOT A FAN…I LIKE HOW YOU GAVE LAST YEARS RACERS A CHANCE BEFORE THE HERD, I ALSO THINK LOCALS SHOULD GET A EXTRA SHOT AT RACING, BUT HAVE NO IDEA HOW YOU COULD PULL THAT ONE OFF! FIRST COME FIRST SERVE FOR ME…I’AM STOKED I’M IN I THOUGHT IT WAS A ERROR ON ATHLETE 360 PART.
