Do Your Body a Favor!

April 27, 2020 by admin

I’d guess that 50% of Point 2 Point riders have the simple goal of finishing the event, without too much discomfort. Because of this, I want to share a secret weapon with you.

My name is Jay (I’m the P2P Race Director) and I’m over 50 years old and still active with multiple mountain sports that include alpine skiing and touring, bike racing/riding of all sorts, and nordic skiing, just to name a few. Working with (Ben) Van Treese Training gave me a new perspective on what my athletic potential is, and I wish I’d started doing strength work and more importantly, work on my functional range (with Kinstretch), years ago.

There you have it, the secret weapon is Functional Range Conditioning which is accomplished through Kinstretch exercise.

Last year in March, I had a completely torn ACL repaired. I was very concerned this would affect the pace at which I usually ride my bike and ski. Ben and I started working on rehabbing the knee, in conjunction with my physical therapist, a few days after surgery. At eight months, I was racing cyclocross bikes, and at nine months, started skiing. I figured I’d have a season on skis that was maybe 60 – 70% of normal, however, within an hour of being back on the snow I incredibly felt I was near full strength. By late December, I literally couldn’t tell I’d had surgery (aside from the brace I was wearing). A lot of this outcome was from very focused strength conditioning (programmed by Ben), but a significant component was working on my mobility through Kinstretch, and without it, I’m convinced I would not have had the same success.

If you are an aging athlete (and aren’t we all) and want to operate at peak performance for events like the Point 2 Point, or simply just riding and doing activities you enjoy, explore options with Ben and his team as soon as you can.

lucky for you all, Kinstretch is really easy to follow along with through online courses and Van Treese Training is offering training right now. Increase your odds of making it the finish line, and enjoy every mile of the course while you do!

Details can be found HERE.

Is the course going to be the same as last year as outlined in Trailforks?

Lots of good memories in PC, specially because the p2p through the years there. From the hot ones, to the stormy year where the start had to be delayed… everyone I did was memorable. Miss you PC!

I am not trying to get any PRs or make podium or anything, just trying to finish. It seems like there are a million ways to train for this. Do you have any training sites or protocols you think are good for intermediate (just trying to finish) riders?
