The Numbers Are In…

July 20, 2009 by admin

So we’ve chopped the course down to the promised 75 miles! We will have a Google Earth Map Posted up tomorrow night. Here are the details as they stand now (please note, these may change just a tad here and there as we re-ride the course with a much more sensitive GPS unit).

Total Miles As of now are right on 75 Miles, 90% of which is true 1-Track, and there is 14,080′ of climbing.

Leg 1 of the Duo class will ride 34.3 miles and climb 6,695′. Leg 2 of the Duo class will ride 40.66 miles and climb 7,385′. Leg 1, for a couple of reasons, miles being the obvious, will be the easier section. For the most part, this leg is on pretty easy riding trail until you get to the Bald Mountain loop of Deer Valley. Leg 2 is more technically demanding over the duration of the miles.

One more time, this is not concrete and these numbers will definitely fluctuate a little as we polish the course. The time is now, sign up and “do what your afraid to.”

Is Sunset (climb up Bald Mtn @ DV) going to be closed to downhill traffic on raceday? Climbed it yesterday and felt like the kid who showed up to football practice with no gear…scary.

Is the climb all the way up Sunset? Looks like you guys climbed the top portion of Freestyle on the map.

Tor…you can pass me while I’m pushing my bike thru the grass next to Lower Sunset.

yowza, that Sunset > Aspen Slalom part of Leg 1 seems brutal. lots of roots and loose track for an uphill…other than that, the course looks great. stoked.

Yes, that climb is definitely going to bite in a little. We’ve debated and discussed a lot – in the end, it’s the challenge of it all which makes us want to embark on a race like this. It may take a little pushing, a curse word or two…but when you finish it will feel oooh so good.

How are we supposed to pass riders (and get passed) if this is truly 90% Single Track? I raced Leadville last year and passed literally a hundred riders in the 2nd 50 miles. As a single speed rider, I spent the first 50 getting passed on the flats and yo-yoing past riders on the hills. How many entrants are you hoping for? What will be the separation for classes or is this a mass start?
    Thanks
    TOR

Is the course going to be the same as last year as outlined in Trailforks?

Lots of good memories in PC, specially because the p2p through the years there. From the hot ones, to the stormy year where the start had to be delayed… everyone I did was memorable. Miss you PC!

I am not trying to get any PRs or make podium or anything, just trying to finish. It seems like there are a million ways to train for this. Do you have any training sites or protocols you think are good for intermediate (just trying to finish) riders?
